소매통
소매통은 예전 재래식 화장실 옆에 장군을 놓아두고, 남자들이 소변을 보면 가득 찼을 때 소매통에 덜어 담아 거름으로 뿌릴 때 사용하던 옹기이다.
소변을 밭에 뿌릴 때 편리하도록 입구 부분에 귀때를 만들어 귀때동이라고 부르기도 했다.
‘귀때’란 물이나 술을 흘리지 않고 잘 따를 수 있도록 그릇 끝부분에 내민 부리를 말한다.
Somaetong
Somaetong is an Onggi jar that was used next to traditional toilets. Men would urinate into a chamber pot, and when it became full, the contents were poured into the Somaetong to be spread as fertilizer.
To make it easier to pour onto the fields, a spout called a gwide was added to the opening, and the jar was sometimes called a Gwide-dongi.
The term “gwide” refers to the extended lip at the edge of the vessel, designed to pour liquids like water or alcohol without spilling.
